Abdulla Datoo arrived in Mombasa from India in 1880. He was 15 years old. He then went to Lindi and Mikindani and worked as Chief Accountant with Tharia Toppan. Tharia Toppan had about 30 shops extending up to Mozambique and the Head Office was in Zanzibar. His job was to visit the shops and do the accounting for the shops. He worked for 15 years and then settled in Mombasa at the age of 30. He started shop in Mombasa and passed away in 1917 at the age of 57.
